"The Garden Route"

One of the top holiday destinations in South Africa, is the Garden Route. This part of the world has the most wonderful golden beaches and lakes, indigenous forests and lagoons. Even in the cold winter months, tourists can expect more sunshine than rain, there are a wealth of activities that await the adventurous enthusiast, from hiking to scuba diving and some of the most beautiful golf courses.

There is something to suit every taste and budget. The best way to appreciate the picturesque coastal towns is by car. One can spend weeks exploring the many small resorts such as Victoria Bay, George, Knysna, Plettenberg, etc. Or why not stay at the Garden Route Game Lodge, in one of its tastefully decorated rooms, which has a blend of "Old Africa" and western style, and enjoy two game drives to view the "big five" on a malaria free environment.

Tasty traditional cuisine is served in a "Boma" around the camp fire. There are so many beautiful beaches along this coast, that to visit them all would take weeks. One of the best is "Brenton on Sea", which has a long expanse of white virgin sand, ten minutes drive from Knysna, but without a doubt, the most beautiful beach is the Island on Robberg Peninsula, where one can watch huge waves crashing into the rocks below, or watch dolphins leap and surf in the breakers. 30 km west of Plettenberg Bay, is the laid-back town of Knysna, which has developed into a bustling centre with a waterfront, and upmarket hotels. Here you can visit Knysna Elephant Park, where you can get a glimpse into the lives of the gentle giants who once roamed freely in the nearby forest, or take one of the many day trips on offer.
