San Lameer Country Club

SAN LAMEER Country Club Since its opening in 1992, San Lameer has taken its place among SA's finest coastal courses and is in many ways unique. The layout winds through pristine coastal flora and tastefully constructed villas, its fairways clad in a strain of cynoden called Sahara, a grass which provides an excellent playing surface and which complements the large undulating Country Club-grassed greens.

With the Wild Coast immediately to the south and Selborne to the north, San Lameer forms part of our aptly named "Golf Coast" and certainly qualifies as a 'must-play' within this region. If there is a secret to scoring well here it may be to exercise restraint at all times. Designer Peter Matkovick, although not having the luxury of a blank canvas (the hotel and many of the villas pre-date the course's construction), has produced an excellent compact layout on charming, undulating terrain .

Once the home of our SA Master tournament. San Lameer is also the local home of one of Southern Africa's master golfers, Mark McNulty. There is certainly an interesting blend of holes on this light economical layout, all memorable and all capable of frustrating the player who throws caution to the wind. Besides the impenetrable bush there is an abundance of water on the course, but conservative playing routes are always available.

It can safely be said of San Lameer that even if a golfer fails to master the course, the round will remain a pleasing experience.

Feature holes:

it has often been said that no finer collection of par threes exist anywhere and, while it might be unfair to choose favorites, the 4th hole, interestingly, is almost a carbon copy of Augusta National's famous 12th.
