Durban Country Club

Durban Country Club This marvelous facility whose colonial ambience lives on its traditions and the splendour of its clubhouse, is situated immediately to the north of Durban's city centre, alongside the coastal motorway and a string of golden beaches. Just one aspect of its charm is that from several of its tees, the whitecaps of the Indian Ocean and the sweep of Durban's seafront are clearly in view.

Its pedigree is unmatched it has hosted more SA Open Championships than any of our other courses and is our only course to routinely appear in various rankings of the world's top 100. Durban CC is very compact and lengthwise the layout is no monster: the premium being on accuracy. But the dense tropical scrub and the casuarina trees which line so many of the fairways, as well as the severely undulating, dunelike terrain, serve to seclude most of the holes: the playing experience is one of tranquility.

The design elements and superbly balanced short 'character' par fours are offset by more demanding two-shotters; holes which characteristically play downwind are matched by crosswind and headwind challenges. In a strong breeze the layout is exhilarating, mandating control and nerve; in calm weather it is scoring-friendly.

Feature Holes:

Durban provides great golf all year round, but the cool, less windy months of winter (April through July) are best. Feature holes: the par-five 3rd, listed by GOLF Magazine (USA) among its finest 18 holes worldwide: the par three 12th (known as the "Prince of Wales") which boasts an elusive, pulpit green; the par-four 17th with its switchback fairway and green-guarding amphitheatre; and the par-four 18th, driveable in most conditions, but bristling with trouble.
